According to authorities, the incident occurred earlier this month when police encountered a white Mercedes obstructing the westbound lane of Mineral Spring Avenue off Route 146.
Upon approaching the vehicle, officers identified Butler as the driver.
He has not been the same ever since he got that game-winning interception he should be somewhere enjoying his retirement, but not drunk π

In a statement to the press, the North Providence police detailed the encounter, noting signs of impairment such as slurred speech, delayed responses, and bloodshot, watery eyes.
Butler allegedly confessed to having consumed alcohol, reportedly telling officers, “Just take me to jail,” as documented in the police report.
Oh wow, must've been drinking that magic Super Bowl juice ππ» But seriously, get a designated driver, Malcom! #SafetyFirst #NotCool #SmartDecisions

Despite the officers’ requests, Butler refused to undergo a field sobriety test. Consequently, he was arrested on suspicion of DUI, as confirmed by WPRI.
The former NFL star was taken into custody without incident and subsequently summoned to appear in court on Thursday to face charges of DUI, with his blood alcohol concentration remaining undisclosed.

Butler, who retired from the NFL earlier this month, had a decorated career spanning nine years in the NFL.
He is most well-known for two Super Bowl “moments” in particular.
Of course, Patriots fans will forever remember his clutch, game-winning interception of Russell Wilson in Super Bowl XLIX…

Just like they’ll forever remember Bill Belichick’s decision to bench him in Super Bowl LII for (exact) reasons still unknown. (He did play on one single special teams play – but make no mistake, he was “benched.”)Β
The real question is want the answer to in the New England Patriots / Apple TV docuseries is:
Why was Malcolm Butler benched in the Super Bowl??
Still no definite answer till this day. pic.twitter.com/8FYOpZieNx

What are your thoughts on Butler’s up-and-down career???
As far as his DUI, hopefully he’s able to learn from his mistake and move on in a productive fashion…
In the deposition they should ask him about Super Bowl LI.
It might be the only way we find out what happened.
