SERIOUSLY?!: Lead Analyst Makes Eye-Opening J.J. McCarthy Prediction … Is He The Most Polarizing Player In The Entire Draft??

One of the most polarizing players in the entire NFL Draft is Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

Fresh off winning the national championship with the Wolverines, McCarthy enters the draft seeking to translate his college success to the NFL.

Perhaps no player has such varying opinions than McCarthy.

Some scouts and analysts have him as a top 5 pick. Some have him slotted for the second round … The projections are truly all over the place.

Even his performance at last week’s Scouting Combine was hotly debated. Some thought he looked great and helped his stock in a big way. While others were left unimpressed.

Fortunately, we won’t have to wait much longer to find out where his NFL home will be. But until then, we’re left to speculate what exactly teams think of him.

Jim Harbaugh has called him the best quarterback in this draft … But of course, he’s biased.

Joel Klatt is just about as respected as they come, and he knows McCarthy as well as almost anyone due to his work as lead analyst for Big Ten-focused FOX Sports.

Klatt recently made it very clear where he stands on McCarthy…

“J.J. McCarthy is going to be a really good NFL quarterback, okay? Those of you that want to be a hater of JJ McCarthy, that’s fine,” he said. “I’m gonna be pretty surprised if he’s not drafted in the first 15 picks. I might be surprised if he’s not taken in the top 10. That’s the type of momentum that he’s generating.”

“He plays a selfless brand of football, he’s incredibly incredibly athletic, the guy spins it, he makes plays, he’s a winner, and he doesn’t care who gets the credit. Every organization in the NFL is looking for players like that and in particular at that position.”

There’s nothing Klatt said that isn’t true. McCarthy might be the most unselfish player in the draft. He’s a team-first leader through-and-through and only cares about winning.

As long as he has the skills to go with it (which he does), that’s an NFL teams’ dream.

Former Notre Dame great Brady Quinn also resides comfortably in the pro-McCarthy camp.

“To me, he’s going to end up being a top 10 pick when it’s all said and done,” Quinn stated confidently on CBS Sports HQ. “I think teams are going to love his ability to create and his ability to take off and run, too.”

“[McCarthy] hasn’t had to necessarily dominate games. I’ll still go back to when he’s had to do it, he’s showcased the ability to … He’s able to layer the ball which is another thing you always hear talked about this time of year,” he added.

“The ability to get it over one defender, but in front of the next or inside a tight window. He showcases all of that. We just didn’t see it as much as we saw with a lot of other quarterbacks who threw the football more.”

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah agrees with Klatt and Quinn. He predicts McCarthy will be drafted eight overall by the Atlanta Falcons.

There are also plenty of reports indicating that the Minnesota Vikings are interested in McCarthy and may look to trade up from #11 to grab him.

For what it’s worth, I think McCarthy has a phenomenal upside and will turn out to be a top-tier quarterback in the NFL.

He has the skill-set and all the intangibles you could possibly want in a franchise quarterback.

Had he played in more of a “pass-happy” offense in college, the overall narrative would’ve been much different and there would have been a clearer consensus on him.

What is your take on McCarthy?

Do you buy the hype? … Or do you side with those who think he’s closer to a second-round pick than a first?

Where will he end up being drafted?

When it’s all said and done, who will be the best quarterback to come from this star-studded draft???
