Alabama Center Seth McLaughlin Reveals Reasons For Move To Ohio State

In a significant transfer decision following Alabama’s 2023 season, starting center Seth McLaughlin announced his move to Ohio State. During a media event with the Buckeyes, McLaughlin shed light on why he opted for Ohio State over other potential programs, emphasizing the university’s esteemed status in college football and his aspiration to compete for a championship in his final year of college.

Expressing his rationale, McLaughlin stated, “I thought Ohio State’s one of the greatest programs in college football. Coming from a place like Alabama, I thought I wanted to go to another similar place that’s always competing to win championships and has great coaching and great development.”

During his four-year tenure at Alabama, McLaughlin started in 24 out of 35 games, but a few critical mishaps during the game against Michigan raised concerns among fans. Despite this, he spoke highly of Nick Saban and the University of Alabama for their role in his development, particularly in enhancing his potential as an NFL Draft prospect.

Reflecting on his time at Alabama, McLaughlin acknowledged, “I thought at this point in my career, I think Alabama had done a great job of developing me from the 265-pound kid into the 300-pound center that I was. But I thought for my 5th year I could do something different, go to a new program and learn from new people, be with a new strength staff and really progress my development further…”

He added, “I have 2 degrees from Alabama, that’s always going to be my alma mater. So appreciative for everything I’ve done and everything that’s been given to me there. But we’re playing this sport to be professionals, and I just thought for my benefit the change would be good.”

Wishing Seth McLaughlin the best of luck in his journey at Ohio State.
