Jets’ Garrett Wilson Reflects on Venting Session with Team Amidst Frustrations

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. –New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson didn’t mince words when describing the 2023 season as “the worst year of my life.” However, in a recent radio appearance on “Bart & Hahn” on ESPN New York, Wilson revealed that he has expressed his concerns to team officials, and he’s satisfied with the organization’s commitment to addressing them.

During the interview, Wilson acknowledged the rare openness within the Jets organization, stating, “They’ve definitely let me vent, I guess you could say. I’m appreciative of that. I know that isn’t the case everywhere and that isn’t the case often.” He highlighted the insightful answers provided by team officials, emphasizing the value of their open-door policy.

The wide receiver, who secured the 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year title, achieved his second consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season. Despite his individual success, Wilson expressed disappointment with the Jets’ 7-10 finish and hinted at the need for better in-game adjustments on the offensive side.

While not explicitly mentioning offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett by name, Wilson stressed the importance of improving offensive strategies. Hackett, despite the team’s struggles, is set to return in 2024.

“I hear I had a good year. It’s the worst year of my life, though,” shared Wilson candidly. His sentiments prompted general manager Joe Douglas to acknowledge the need for more support for the offense, stating, “When I hear things like that, it just makes me say I have to do more to help this offense, that wideout room, that O-line. I need to do more.”

Looking ahead, the Jets are on the hunt for a No. 2 receiver to alleviate the pressure on Wilson, who stood out as their sole perimeter threat. The anticipated return of a healthy Aaron Rodgers is also expected to make a significant impact.

Despite the challenges faced during the 2023 season, Wilson expressed confidence in the collective mission of the team, stating, “Everyone is on the same mission.” As the Jets navigate the offseason, addressing concerns and making strategic moves, the focus remains on improving and aligning the team for success in the upcoming NFL season.
