CFB World Split After Kirk Herbstreit’s Emotional Lee Corso Message

Incredibly, we are just TWO weeks away from the return of college football. (Sure, there are only a couple of games in “Week 0” but we’ll take anything we can get!)

With the return of the sport we love comes the return of ESPN College GameDay.

The ESPN College GameDay team, led by the iconic Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso, continues to be a fundamental part of college football’s landscape.

For almost 30 years, this dynamic duo and their partners have delivered insightful analysis, unforgettable moments, and a unique blend of expertise and entertainment to fans across the country.

Since their collaboration began on College GameDay in 1996, the show has evolved from a straightforward pregame broadcast into a cherished cultural event that roams college towns every Saturday.

In a touching message posted on X, Herbstreit celebrated Corso’s 89th birthday with heartfelt words.

“Happy 89th birthday to the Sunshine Scooter,” Herbstreit wrote. “A true icon for the sport of CFB & a dear friend. Be our 29th season together this fall on ⁦⁦College GameDay⁩. So thankful for the on-air lessons, the unbelievable memories, but especially you pouring into my heart as a friend!”

Herbie’s tribute was both personal and reassuring for (some) college football fans, who are eager to see Corso return to the show this season.

Recent health concerns had raised doubts about Corso’s continued participation, with fans and colleagues alike deeply valuing his presence.

Despite his occasional absences due to health issues, Corso’s commitment to College GameDay remains strong. He has been a fixture on the show since its debut in 1987.

While it’s true that some fans are sick and tired of Corso, the fact of the matter is the man is an institution.

Sure, he’s lost a ton off his fastball and can have a rough moment or two on the air – but that has to do with previous health issues.

Through it all, he’s still as passionate as ever about college football.

College GameDay will kick-off the 2024 season live from Dublin, Ireland, ahead of the Florida State – Georgia Tech clash on Saturday, August 24.

Speaking of ESPN, they just announced their theme song for this season’s college football coverage. Step aside Imagine Dragons, because it will be Jelly Roll and his new single “Get By” which will be featured in ESPN’s promotion of the sport.

“There’s a strong connection between music and college football, and for over a decade, ESPN’s college football anthem has been a key part of the sport’s promotion, symbolizing the unofficial start of the season,” said Curtis Friends, ESPN’s vice president of marketing.

“Jelly Roll is a talented, award-winning artist whose music resonates with the passion of college football fans nationwide. We’re thrilled that ‘Get By’ will be the soundtrack for the sport throughout the season,” he added.

What are your thoughts on Corso’s continued presence on College GameDay???
